Popiel (Popiel Dumicz) Jozef coat of arms Sulima (ca. 1730 ca. 1800), Lviv castellan. he was a son of Krzysztof (vide.) and his first wife Katarzyna Ustrzycki. In 1754 he was a sub-prefect of Cecyniow. In 760 he became a colonel of the regiment of heavy cavalry (husaria), after Jozef Kajetan Dunin Karwicki. On April 27, 1762 Popiel became a Sierp castellan, On May 10 and 23 1766 he took a part in the Senate Council session. The ordinary session of the Parliament in the same year appointed him a commissar for the Border Commission betw. Kijow and Braclaw provinces. Constitution of the extraordinary Parliament session in Warsaw granteded him and his brother Prokop an amount of 200,000 zloty as reward and compensation for his father envoy to Turkey in 1722. On September 30, 1769 he was present at the session of the Senate Council. The partitioning Parliament appointed him a commissioner of the Ostrogski estates and awarded him sub-prefecture of Skala. On May 19, 1777 he became a Lviv castellan. During Parliament session of 1780 -1782 he was a Councilman in the Unceasing Council and a member of its Police Department. In 1781 Popiel was awarded the White Eagle Order, and before that he became a cavalier of the St. Stanislaus Order. The Parliament of 1782 in Warsaw and of 1784 in Grodno he was appointed a Parliament Judge. In 1786 he resigned from the Lviv castellancy and joined the Targowica Confederation and on August 6, 1792 he became a Councilman for the Crown Confederation.
Popiel was co-owner of the villages Topola i Slonowice. Also, he held Letniowce (Uszyca Nowa) in Podole, as a lifetime holding, similarly he held villages Spikolozy and Kolosowe in Wolyn province (1771), demesne of Kniahinin containing the villages of Kniahinin, Ostrow, Bodziaki, Zamlynie in Krzemien county. In 1780 he was acquitted by Piaskowski, the Krzemien county chamberlain, for an amount of 300, 000 zloty. Before 1784 he sold estate Warkowicze in Dubno county, probably a part of his wife's dowry.
Popiel was married with Euzebia Ledochowski. He had several children, only two of them known by their names: Ksawery and Magdalena, a wife to Franciszek Ksawery Drzewicki.
Ksawery (born in 1770) during 1780-1786 was a student at Knights School, afterwards commissioned as lieutenant he was aide-de-camp for the divisioner Michal Lubomirski in his Ukrainian division (as an adiutant he took a part in the 1792 campaign). During Kosciuszko insurgency he was a major in Wolyn province militia.
